Survey/Mapping Sciences

SURV 118–Plane Surveying - 4 units
History and careers in surveying. Introduction to survey measurements, distance,
direction and elevations. Traverse computations and adjustment. Recording field
measurements. Assists in passing the land surveyor-in-training exam. Completion of
Math 160 recommended.

This hybrid is a combination of in class and online instruction. Requires 1.5 hours per
week online. In addition, Saturday labs meet 8:00am-4:30pm on Sept 17; Oct 1, 15,
29; Nov 19; and Dec 3. Detailed information given Aug 23 at first class meeting.

SURV 229–Legal Aspects of Surveying I - 3 units
Basic elements of the U.S. Public Land Survey System, including background, history,
and subdivisions of sections and restoration of lost corners. Principles of preparing
land descriptions for surveyors and title company personnel. Common pitfalls and how
to avoid them. Recommended preparation: Survey/Mapping Sciences 119.

download syllabus, or be dropped. Requires 3 hours per week online.

college online at sccollege.edu. Students are assigned a registration date via email, and
will register online. Students are encouraged to register early. The cost for California
residents is $46 per unit (plus parking, health/student fees and texts). Enrollment fees
must be paid in full within three days of registration or student will be dropped.
