SURV 118–Plane Surveying 4 units
History and careers in surveying. Introduction to survey measurements, distance, direction and elevations. Traverse computations and adjustment. Recording field measurements. Assists in passing the land surveyor-in-training exam. Completion of Math 160 recommended. CSU/UC.

SURV 119–Advanced Plane Surveying 4 units
Prerequisite: Survey/Mapping Sciences 118 or possession of a valid Certificate as a Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) issued by any state. Emphasis on coordinate geometry calculations. Route surveying with horizontal and vertical curves. Topographic surveying and mapping. Construction surveying. Introduction to geospatial technologies, boundary surveying and surveys of public lands. Field surveying projects. Assists in passing the land surveyor-in-training exam. CSU/UC.
Recommended Preparation: Mathematics 160.

This hybrid is a combination of in-class and online instruction. Requires 1.5 hours per week online. In addition, six Saturday labs meet 8:00am-4:30pm on Mar 3, 17; Apr 14, 28; May 12, 26. Details given at first class meeting on Feb 6, 2018.

SURV 155–Introduction to Geographic Information Systems 3 units
Basic scientific principles of GIS as they relate to working with data that have important spatial orientation and organization. Covers basic concepts in mapping and orientation, the development of map scales and comparison of different coordinate systems and data error analysis. CSU/UC. (Same as Geography 155) Recommended preparation: Familiarity with PC and Windows.

SURV 205–Computer-Aided Drafting Fundamentals 3 units
A first course in computer drafting with applications in land surveying specifically intended for students with land surveying training or experience. CSU. Recommended preparation: Survey/Mapping Sciences 119.

SURV 222–Advanced Problems in Surveying II 3 units
Introduction to photogrammetry emphasizing concepts and calculations. Route surveying includes horizontal and vertical curves, volume calculations and construction staking. Prepares students for land survey exams. CSU. Recommended Prep: Survey/Mapping Sciences 119 and 221 and Math 160
